8th September was named International Literacy Day by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), its aim is to highlight the importance of literacy to individuals, communities and societies.

On International Literacy Day each year, UNESCO reminds the international community of the status of literacy and adult learning globally.
- Some 775 million adults worldwide cannot write their own name or read a book
- One in five adults is not literate of which two-thirds of them are women
- 7 million children are out-of-school and many more attend irregularly or drop out
Why is literacy so important?
Being able to read and write is important to get through our everyday tasks, such as reading a letter, filling in a form, to getting a job. Literacy opens up a window of opportunities to every one of us, and is essential to our development personally and for the development of our communities.
ABMA Education aims to support and encourage our learners to improve their literacy skills and have a SKILLS CENTRE on our website to assist with this. This includes articles giving advice on writing a CV, applying to university as well as career progression. There are new texts being added to assist learners to improve their skills all the time, so we would urge learners to review this page regularly.
We are also very aware of the difficulty that some areas face when trying to obtain books, in particular textbooks and the immense costs involved in doing so. For this reason ABMA Education has created the ABMA Education online e-library!
The ABMA Education e-Library contains textbooks to compliment all of ABMA Education qualifications.
