Examination Technique

Examination time can be stressful for students but this can be made easier through careful preparation. By revising thoroughly (for revision tips click here) and following a few simple steps, you will ensure you perform to your maximum capability.

Where possible, try to have something to eat before your examination. Feeling hungry will affect your concentration.

Allow plenty of time to get to the examination room. Try to leave early to avoid rushing, this will help you to relax.

LEAVE YOUR MOBILE PHONE AT HOME. Taking a mobile phone into the examination room may result in you being disqualified from the examination and banned from taking future examinations with ABMA.

Remain focussed by not speaking with friends before the examination; you can always speak to them afterwards.

Take deep breaths to relax your nerves and ignore those around you.

Once you are instructed to start the exam, begin by reading all the instructions carefully.

Read through all of the questions thoroughly and make a few notes as they come to mind.

Plan your time. Allocate a time frame to answer each question and stick to it.

The number of marks at the end of a question will give you an indication as to how long you should spend on each question.

Make sure you answer the right number of questions in each section. Start with the easiest; this will build your confidence as you approach the tougher questions.

Try to write your answers as clearly as possible. If the person marking it cannot read it then they will not be able to mark it.

If you find that you are running out of time and still have questions remaining, make a note on the paper telling the person who will mark it that this is the case. Then state the main points, facts and arguments in order to get as many marks as possible.
The ABMA would like to wish all ABMA students the very best of luck when taking their exams in the near future.
